1: Detail Your Telephones

1: Detail Your Telephones Age your glass doors. This homeowner functioned with   Seattle designer Judith Wright Sentz to create the leaded glass windows at the cabinets of the  2016 National Kitchen Bath Association-winning kitchen, however premade glass could have the same stylish effect. For an even more economical and easier fix, faux stained glass craft kits and window films are found through online retailers for under $40.

2: Hide Particular Components Sometimes the secret to a updated appearance hinges, well, the hinges. In this Georgia lake home kitchen, designer Beth Johnson maintained the original cabinets but removed the existing exposed bronze hooks on the doors and replaced them with concealed hinges. Together with a fresh coat of paint, the wall of cabinets now includes a clean, compact appeal.

3: Create Symmetry Simplifying the cupboard positioning can make a polished designer look. Using pairs, like these cabinets on either side of the high-end stove hood, generates rhythm, states Ili Hidalgo-Nilsson, architect and designer with Terracotta Design Build in Atlanta. This inspirational luxury kitchen also has yet another wise idea, to substitute upper cupboard doors with glass ones to create a screen space.

4: Reach a High Degree Top off your cupboards with molding. It may be a weekend DIY project along with a way to add needed charm to basic, bland cabinets.

Only an Extra Touch Crown molding at the top also adds a little more dimension to these white cabinets. The extra architectural element, however, does not divert from the glistening vent hood, pendants and tile.

Geometric Design Detail For another molding idea, go the extra step by creating a diamond design in your port hood to connect sections of cabinets. For this high-end kitchen, Atlanta designer Michele Gratch also brought in luxe barstools and surfaces but accessorized with cheap things from home decor shops.

5: Stick With (a Few) Standards Use cost-saving regular colors in one area so that you can splurge in different areas. The homeowners in this Atlanta neighborhood worked with designer Thea Quillian to organize their kitchen, and originally wanted to put in blue upper cabinets. When they discovered white cabinets from Ikea in a fraction of the price, they understood they can use the savings to manage more expensive walnut counter tops.

6. Go for High-Gloss A smaller set of grey Ikea cabinets, used within an Atlanta mid-century contemporary kitchen, provides a steel sheen to the space, which was formerly designed by Brian Patrick Flynn as his private residence.

Glossy Bright Use a high gloss paint in a shade that matches with your other decor on a few of your cabinets to give your kitchen a luxury lacquer look. Use the same hardware throughout the kitchen to maintain a cohesive appearance, as designer Diane Foreman failed in this 2016 National Kitchen Bath Association Design Competition winner.

Looks Great in a Loft Loft-style living necessitates cabinets using an industrial edge. Since Atlanta homeowners Sy and Nyvette Gray needed to fill a vast space and create much-needed storage, they chose kitchen cabinets from Ikea. They worked with designer Iesia D. King for their attic decoration, along with the minimalist cabinets even bring out the grayish tones of the outdated exposed brick.

7: Break Up the Space Make an intentional break in the cabinets by adding another element to a wall. Within an Atlanta Victorian residence, designer Jenn Ryan Designs split the row of upper cabinets with a section of little shelves which hold spices and maintain cookbooks handy.

Accent Shelving When you eliminate doors, it doesn't have to be a complete cabinet redo. Rather, let 1 cabinet be free to exhibit interesting kitchenware, such as cooper kettles, cookbooks and other items out in the open. Improve the background with tile or wallpaper.

8. Repaint and Refashion Painting cabinets can be a big undertaking, but it pays at the end in terms of look and cost savings. DIY blogger Yuni Min spent approximately three weeks painting all of 39 closets and 23 drawers, for example, island, in her kitchen. She used satin endings of Behr's Gray Shimmer for its perimeter cabinets and Behr's Dawn Gray on the island to refashion the once dark cherry cupboards for a bright modern look. The transformation cost less than $300, she says.

Age Gracefully When DIYer and stylist Jo Torrijos renovated her Atlanta Craftsman bungalow kitchen 2009, she modernized cherry cabinets. She climbed tired of this appearance, but did not want to buy new cabinets. By repainting them at a light gray (Benjamin Moore's Gray Owl), Torrijos was able to alter her kitchen to go with her updated fashion.

Contrasting Colors Mix things up by painting your top cabinets a darker lighter colour than the bottom cabinets. The proprietors of this updated Victorian home in Atlanta, who worked with Jenn Ryan Designs,  used simple, white subway tile to bridge the light and dark colors.

9: Hard Choices with Hardware Replace your old hardware with brass or bronze knobs or pulls, says Georgia designer Michelle Mentzer. In this kitchen, she also removed doors to cabinets to display a pile of dishes and decorative dishes in a darkened color scheme.

Use Bronze or Brass If you like your cabinets but need a bit more pizzazz, place a spotlight on them together with light. Seattle designer Judith Wright Sentz utilized LED ribbon lights indoors and low voltage lighting underneath. Not only does this showcase the gorgeous leaded glass doors and items on display, it also provides additional functional lighting for your kitchen. Sentz claims the kitchen, that was a 2016 National Kitchen Bath Association winner, was once very dark, so she took good care to include as much light into the space as possible.

10: Shine New Light Insert pullout appliance storage to free up counter top and optimize cabinet storage space. Diane Foreman of Neil Kelly Co.. Made this 2016 National Kitchen Bath Association winner. A layered caddy similar to that one adds a lot of utility, but even a very simple pullout drawer will help transform your distance.

11. Bring Organization Envy Get arranged by turning a base shelf into a mini-office. Storage bins and baskets at a contrasting color with the cabinets or even a fun pattern can make a designer look with little investment.

Small Storage Just remove the doors of your upper cabinets, which gives you the look of a built-in hutch. Here, tilework fitting the backsplash creates a textured backdrop for the items on display from the open shelving.

12: Open Up Display Space Carve out a screen nook. If you are removing doors, then take them off of the cabinets over your fridge or microwave to create a shelf for displaying chosen platters, dinnerware and bakeware. Designers frequently group white things together to get an expensive look, in spite of affordable dinnerware.

13: Watch What's Overhead Although the cabinets in this modern rustic kitchen have been custom created, architect Ili Hidalgo-Nilsson with Terracotta Design Build in Atlanta says there's a crucial space-planning tip here. Depending on your kitchen design, use the distance above your dividers for storage that you don't need every day. Floating reclaimed wood shelves might well work in such spaces and could be located at home decor shops, for instance.

Smart Design Reconsider your drawer fashion. Slab, or strong, drawer fronts frequently fit best into tight spaces and are more affordable than more ornate options. They also may work better in tighter spaces. This inspiration kitchen is by Monte Hewett Homes, a metro Atlanta builder.

14: Simplify Your Drawers Install glass doors on cabinets in key areas, like flanking the oven. This way you can select a couple pieces to show without going all out with open shelving.

"Though the apartment is modest," says Olsen, "it is actually rather grand with 12-foot ceilings, enormous windows and a high-relief fireplace.
